A week-long programme of events to inspire Penicuik to jump on two wheels! Exciting, fun events for all ages, as well as practical advice, FREE bike hire and safety checks. Penicuik First BID Ltd. has secured funding from BIDs Scotland supported by Transport Scotland to host events in support of European Mobility Week from 16th-22nd September 2016!

PENICOGS COMMUNITY CYCLE!
Prize pot of £350 open to all participants! Win all sorts of biking goodies, from multi-tools and water bottles to bells, locks and much more!
WHERE: Top of Valleyfield Road, Penicuik. Coming from the town centre, head down Bridge St. and turn left before the bridge.
WHEN: Thursday 17th September, 17:00
HOW: Register by liking the Penicuik First community page, then signing at the start point. If you need a bike, please visit the “Gear Up!” unit at 17 John St. before 16:00 on the day to avoid disappointment, as there are limited supplies of hire bikes. All riders must wear a helmet and all children under the age of 10 MUST be accompanied by an adult.
The ultimate aim of “Gear Up!” is to encourage cycling in the community, as well as giving a chance for those already bike-mad to meet like-minded people! The “Penicogs!” led community ride around Penicuik is your chance to get started! A fun ride, suitable for all ages and abilities will take place in the evening of Thursday 22nd September, with prizes for participation totalling £350! Pop in to the “Gear Up!” workshop at 17 John Street during the event.
LAUNCH EVENT: BMX STUNT DISPLAY

The 3Sixty BMX Display Team (www.3sixty.me.uk) travelled from as far as Cornwall to put on a spectacular show for the people of Penicuik! Families and bike maniacs turned out in their droves to witness their world-record-breaking stunts on a wonderfully sunny day in Penicuik!
Thanks to Ian, Rich and Brett of the 3Sixty display team, everyone who helped to organise and promote the event, and not least everybody who came down to have some fun and watch the show!
DAILY ACTIVITY: FREE BIKE HIRE AND SERVICING

Has your bike been gathering dust? Head down to the “Gear Up!” workshop at 17 John Street (the former Cheque Centre on Penicuik precinct)! The Rural & Urban Training Scheme (RUTS) will be on hand from Friday 16th September, straight through to Thursday 22nd September (closed Sunday) to make sure you’re
ready to get back on the road! They will service your bike (parts not included) and offer expert advice on cycle routes tailored to you! Don’t have a bike at all? No problem! Trial a range of mountain-, road- and e-bikes FREE throughout the week! Just bring down a valid ID and cycle away! Fancy learning how to repair your
own bike? Practice on the equipment in store any time during “Gear Up!”.
“Gear Up!” is organised and operated by Penicuik First BID Ltd as part of European Mobility Week (www.mobilityweek.eu). EU funding was secured by Penicuik First via Improvement Districts Scotland Ltd. and Scottish Government. Penicuik First has employed the Rural & Urban Training Scheme (RUTS) and 3Sixty Display Team to deliver various aspects of the event.
